symphyta?

Postby davenicholls on 06 Jul 2008, 21:50

I saw lots of these hymenopterans this weekend on bracken in Leicestershire, England. They seemed to be possible laying eggs on the uncurling tips. Can anyone help with identification? thanks

I'm not an expert, but I'd suggest Strongylogaster sp. perhaps S. multifasciata (?)

Thank you Philippe. I've looked up your suggestion and am pretty sure you are right. S. fasciata has bracken as one its main larval foodplants.
