Pompilidae?

Postby EMB on 20 Jan 2009, 14:52

In Dec. last year I visited Cape Verde Islands and took a photo of an Ichneumonid which is possibly a member of the Pompilidae.

I wonder whether anybody can affirm this and tell me something about the insect I photographed?

Thank you in advance

Ichneumonids are not a member of the Pompilids, and your specimen is a Sphecid Wasps (Sphecidae) of the genus Sceliphron, most probable S. spirifex (but I don't know, if there are other, similar African species).
