Hi, is this the nest of Vespa crabro? Found in August.

I am not sure. It depends on cell size in your picture. Each cell 1-1.5 cm in diameter = Vespa crabro. Only c. 0.6 in diameter = Vespula vulgaris. Libor

I already was near a nest of Vespa crabro once time and it is awesome! I really was very surprised with the supreme beauty and strong Vespa crapro hovering near the nest! Remember in some way the Vespa mandarina's video where we can see V. mandarina slaughtering the bees.... (in youtube...)
