Diapriidae - Possibly Coptera or Psilus

Diapriidae - Possibly Coptera or Psilus

Postby LarsBrondum on 20 Mar 2014, 09:44

I found this strange looking hymenoptera in a fall trap from october in Thy Nationalpark, Denmark.

A collegaue of mine has suggested it to be a diapriidae - possibly of either the genus Coptera or Psilus

Can any one here confirm this and possibly also venture a guess as to the species?

Thanks in advance

All I can say is that your colleague is exactly correct. Definitely a diapriid, and could be Coptera (I'm not familiar with Psilus).

This seems to be a very good match for Psilus acutangulus (Jansson 1942). Compare with the figure and description of Psilus cephalotes, which is a synonym.

Thank you very much for your quick replies.

Psilus acutangulus seems rigth - is there any other species to confuse it with?

Is there a key available for the genus?
