Australian wasp

Australian wasp

I almost threw this one away, as it looked just a squashed insect. But on closer inspection it isn't squashed at all. Head mounted really low on the thorax, an large femurs. Is it a wasp? Light trap, Townsville, Queensland.

I'm thinking this MAY be an ant. Reposting this on the Aculeate page could be useful.

Thanks Bob. Yes I see the ant-like head. If it is an ant it is probably squashed, so I'll leave it at that.
