Bombus (?) Philippines

Bombus (?) Philippines

Postby Leif G on 24 Apr 2017, 19:10

Photographed at Mt. Kitanglad, Mindanao, April 2017. Elevation around 1500 m. Relatively small.
Bombus or some other genus? I'm struggling to find useful information on Bombus in The Philippines, but I think I read somewhere only one species of Bombus occur on these islands.
Help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, I believe this is a Bombus. The habitus fits and it seems to have a "pollen basket" on the hind leg.

There should be two species of bumble bees in the Philippines: Bombus flavescens and Bombus irisanensis.
See this website: http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?guide=Apoidea_species&flags=HAS:
tick Country=Philippines and Genus=Bombus and click any "Search" button.

Thanks Øistein. Then Bombus flavescens looks like the best option, mainly because of the yellowish-orange legs.
