Missing branch in Gelis key ? => two corrections needed

Postby 1Caillou on 30 Apr 2014, 22:35

Hello,

I'm looking at the German-English (the english part in fact) Key made by M. Schwarz in 2002:
Revision der westpaläarktischen Arten der Gattungen Gelis THUNBERG mit apteren Weibchen und Thaumatogelis SCHWARZ (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae). Teil 3

I am probably misreading it but I cannot find which item goes down to item #32.
I've come across this problem(?) while trying to "unwrap" (or go from down to up) the key starting with G. melanocephalus:
So I go from item #39, -> 38, -> 32, -> ??

I've reread the key several times trying to find this apparently missing branch but to no avail.
Could you please help me ?

Thank you very much !

P.S.: I previously posted this subject on the "Literature, Downloads, Ressources" forum but I have seen afterwards that it was only for publications themselves, not problems related to these...
So I'm very sorry for the confusion, I've deleted the original post and re-created it here; I hope this is the right place !

It looks like the problem is the second lead from couplet 20 which goes to couplet 31. Couplet 31 is actually reached from the first lead of couplet 20. If you substitute 32 for 31 at couplet 20, it should work.

Thank you very much for your quick answer, but I'm a bit confused:

I don't understand your sentence: in my version of the text (maybe there are several ?) the first lead of couplet 20 goes to 21, do you mean it should go to 31 instead ?

But probably I just misunderstand you, so could you please just confirm that all that is needed is to change the second lead of couplet 20 to go to 32 instead of 31, and leave the first lead of couplet 20 as it is (going to 21) ?

Thanks again !

Sorry if I confused you! I meant that you would eventually get to couplet 31 by following the first lead of couplet 20 rather than the second. The second lead needs to be changed to 32 and that is the only change necessary.

I have been in touch with Mr Martin Schwarz and he kindly replied me about his key, in which there were two problems actually: both couplets 32 and 45 were "orphans", i.e. no other couplet pointed to them, and the two corrections are:
At the end of couplet 20 it should say 32 instead of 31 and at the end of couplet 42 it should say 45 instead of 46.

You were right about the first correction empeejay, thanks again, and of course a big thanks to Mr Schwarz for having considered this matter and his kind reply !
